Matthew Coghlan, Director

Matt started his volleyball journey back home in Hilo, Hawaii. He garnered All-Region and All-State recognition and continued his playing career at NYU. It wasn't until his move to Wichita, Kansas that Matt decided to devote his time to coaching the next generation of volleyball players. Learning at the heels of Wichita State University head coach Chris Lamb and former BYU All-American and USMNT member Scott Larkin, Matt found immediate success at Shockwave Volleyball Academy. His 15-2 team made the largest jump in the rankings in the highly competitive Heart of America region. The following year he took that 16-2 to nationals when they qualified in Minneapolis at the Northern Lights Qualifier. That was the first "2s" team in Wichita history to qualify for nationals. He finished his coaching stint at Shockwave by helping take 17-1 and the club as a whole to the next level when they cracked the top 20 nationwide rankings. 17-1 and 17-2 both finished top 10 at Powerleague that year, making Shockwave the only club in the region to place two teams in the top 10.
He recently moved to Portland and is currently rebuilding the Southridge volleyball program!
